Q: What screen ruling is recommended for fine pore detail in oak patterns?
A: For open-pore oak with fine vessel line detail, we recommend 150–165 lpi screen ruling. Finer than 165 lpi increases the risk of cell bridging and doctor blade chatter on typical decorative base papers. Coarser than 140 lpi loses the fine vessel detail that makes oak look convincing at close inspection distance.

Q: How does ELS servo register differ from mechanical gearbox register in practice?
A: A mechanical gearbox links all print units to a single main shaft. Any gear backlash, shaft twist under load, or bearing wear introduces register error that accumulates with press speed and web tension changes. ELS drives each print unit independently with its own servo motor and encoder; the control system applies micro-corrections at 1,000 times per second, maintaining ±0.1 mm register regardless of speed changes or tension variations during the run.

Q: Is inline spectrophotometry worth the investment for wood grain printing?
A: For premium pattern producers supplying named furniture brands with strict color tolerances, yes. The inline system provides a continuous record of Delta-E deviation, enables immediate corrective action before a full reel is out of tolerance, and generates a production quality log that can be submitted to the brand owner as evidence of process control. For commodity wood grain producers focused on cost per meter rather than brand color matching, the investment may not be justified.

Q: Can the press reproduce digitally designed wood patterns as well as scanned real timber?
A: Yes. Both photographic scans of real timber slices and digitally designed or AI-generated wood patterns are converted to gravure cylinder color separations using the same prepress workflow. The press does not distinguish between the two; what matters is the quality of the color separation and the cylinder engraving, not the design origin.
