Application
- High-speed decorative paper gravure presses — large-diameter unwind on presses running at 150–250 m/min, where reduced changeover frequency has the greatest impact on overall press utilisation and paper waste.
- Industrial-scale decor paper production — 24/7 three-shift operations where minimising crew interaction with heavy paper rolls reduces both labour cost and manual handling injury risk.
- Wide-web presses (2,100–2,500 mm) — wide-web rolls at 2,200 mm width and Ø 1,500 mm weigh 1,800–2,500 kg; heavy-duty unwind with crane-assisted or automatic loading is essential for safe and efficient operation.
- Flying splice production lines — the large-diameter unwind turret option carries two rolls simultaneously, enabling the flying splice system to pre-position and accelerate the new roll while the running roll finishes, achieving zero-downtime changeover.
- Retrofit on existing presses — upgrading the unwind section of an existing press to large-diameter capability is one of the most cost-effective productivity improvements available for established decorative paper operations.
Advantages
- Fewer changeovers per shift — at Ø 1,500 mm versus Ø 900 mm, reel length increases by approximately 2.8x; changeover frequency drops from every 30–35 minutes to every 85–95 minutes at 150 m/min, cutting unwind changeover stoppages from 16–20 per 8-hour shift to 5–6.
- Tension consistency from full roll to core — as roll diameter decreases from 1,500 mm to 76 mm core, inertia changes by a factor of 400; our servo brake-motor system continuously recalculates the deceleration torque required to maintain constant web tension throughout this range, preventing tension spikes that would cause register errors in the first metres of each new roll.
- Safe heavy-roll handling — automatic roll loading with side-loading trolley and hydraulic lift eliminates manual handling of rolls weighing up to 2,500 kg, addressing one of the most significant manual handling injury risks in paper production facilities.
- Lateral guide accuracy — 50 Hz correction rate on the motorised web guide maintains the paper edge within ±1 mm of the set position continuously, regardless of roll eccentricity or cone; this is critical on wide-web presses where lateral paper wander has a proportionally large effect on lateral register.
- Retrofit compatibility — our large-diameter unwind units are designed with standard press-interface dimensions; most can be retrofitted to existing gravure presses of other makes without major structural modification to the press frame.
