Introduction

The unwind section of a decorative paper gravure press is the first point of contact between the raw material and the production process — and its performance directly determines how much paper waste is generated at each reel change, how consistently web tension is maintained at the start of each new roll, and how often the production crew must stop the press to handle reel changeovers. A large diameter unwind for decor paper addresses all three by maximising the paper roll capacity at the unwind station, extending the run time between changeovers, and managing the tension transition at reel start-up with precision servo control.

Zhejiang Meige's large-diameter unwind units are designed for paper rolls up to Ø 1,500 mm — approximately double the roll diameter of entry-level gravure presses — enabling a single reel of 80 g/m² décor paper on a 1,600 mm wide press to carry 8,000–10,000 linear metres rather than the 3,500–4,500 m typical of Ø 900 mm unwinds. Over a 20-hour production day, the reduced changeover frequency adds 45–90 minutes of productive printing time and saves 150–400 m of paper waste per shift.

  • Lateral guide accuracy — 50 Hz correction rate on the motorised web guide maintains the paper edge within ±1 mm of the set position continuously, regardless of roll eccentricity or cone; this is critical on wide-web presses where lateral paper wander has a proportionally large effect on lateral register.
  • Retrofit compatibility — our large-diameter unwind units are designed with standard press-interface dimensions; most can be retrofitted to existing gravure presses of other makes without major structural modification to the press frame.
